My digital camera is terrible at taking live pictures, so I don’t have anything of the con itself. I’m also really tired now, so I’ll pontificate on all the cool stuff that happened at a later time, probably on the Sunday Funnies podcast next week (Episode #7, can you believe we’re up to that many already?!), but here are pictures of the things I got (click pictures to enlarge):
“How to Make Webcomics”, signed by ALL FOUR authors: Not only that, Brad Guigar said I was the first one to come to them to get it signed today. And I’m guessing since this is the first con they’ve all been together at EVER, that may make me the first to get it quad-signed in general (assuming someone else hasn’t flown around the country or spent a lot on postage to accomplish that feat). Oh, yeah, and y’know, in the process I met Brad Guigar, Scott Kurtz, Kris Straub and Dave Kellett in person!! Webcomics Weekly will be that much more awesome to listen to now.
The Swag: Here’s everything I got in all its glory; most of it was free!
The Posters: The posters from the last picture unfolded and unrolled (note the backwards lettering on the Narnia poster on the left)
Penny Arcade Poster: The only one from the last picture that wasn’t free. But my wife liked the title on it, “Birds are Weird”, so we got it. Plus…
…Gabe and Tycho signed it for me!
Okay, today’s Non Sequitur made me laugh out loud, check it out: http://hubert.mycomicspage.com/nonsequitur/2008/05/09/
I’ll be attending the Emerald City Comicon this weekend! In preparation I got some business cards printed up to pass out to anyone who’ll take ‘em. Featuring the all new oycomics.com info (more on that in a later post), I thought these turned out rather nice:
If you’re attending and want one, just comment below or e-mail me and we can try to hook up at the con! I might post a picture of myself later if I can find a decent one…

After comparing Ustream and Mogulus, I came to the conclusion that Mogulus was the better service for LIVE screencasting my comics creation.
However, I did not consider the social aspect of things. Ustream is by far the better service for social interaction. However, I can’t deny that having all of my live and recorded content in one box (the Mogulus interface on this site) is incredibly convenient. Not to mention the awesome titles and overlays.
So, what to do? I recorded my best episodes (so far) on Mogulus, with no easy way to switch them back to Ustream. But building an audience on Ustream is an easier endeavor. The solution? Dual-streaming to both services! I still have the Mogulus interface embedded on my site, but below it is the chat box from the Ustream version of my show.
Rarely do I get to have my cake and eat it too, but in this case I get to take part in the best of both worlds.
And the best part? My computer can actually handle it!

Sunday Funny of the Week: Wiley Miller’s “Non Sequitur” (April 27, 2008). Comic Series of the Week: Trade Loeffler’s “Zip and Lil’ Bit”. Discussion about our cartoon creation tools of choice. And the animals are invading the show! (First time using Skype for this, a few stutters, but overall the show sounds better now!)

Now featuring audio on some episodes, I have recorded a dozen episodes of the Toonin’ View screencast show! Episode 12 is special as I go into more detail about how I create my comics, from start-to-finish, plus how I create comics in Manga Studio (with zoom!). I only managed to finish half the process, so Part 2 on Episode #13 will pick up tomorrow morning around 5 AM (PST). UPDATE: Change in plans I will be on later this afternoon! (Fri, Apr 25th) Stay tuned to my Twitter page for updates: twitter.com/theblogcomics
Remember: Tune in and view Toonin’ View! (too corny? too much? Yeah, okay, I won’t use that anymore, sorry…)
To watch #12 click the On-Demand button in the Mogulus interface and select the episode from the Toonin’ View Collection.
It’s official, the Toonin’ View channel is now live on Mogulus! When I’m screencasting live the stream will simply turn on. You can also watch previous episodes: just click the “On-Demand” button below the window and select what you want. You can also chat in the right column. UPDATE: The chat function has been problematic, so I have removed it for now. On the upside, this has allowed me to float the viewing screen to the right so my latest general blog is more easily accessible.
